Q: You have had an extensive political career but this is the first time that you are contesting elections as a Lok Sabha candidate. What is it like at the ground level?
Gowda: Actually, it is a good time to be a candidate. I am not new to electoral politics in the sense that I have seen my uncle [M V Krishnappa] win six Lok Sabha elections. My father [M V Venkatappa] was elected to the Assembly multiple times…it is only my first as a candidate. But after all these years of preparation, work, and exposure, it is not a big deal. It is something that has given me new energy and new fire.
When I had an easier option of Rajya Sabha, why have I chosen this? – this is something that people ask me. And I can tell you have chosen this because of several reasons. Having come from a family of freedom fighters, this is a moment in India’s history where anyone who c
